Oops! Must have missed a day posting...

These are some wildlife pictures I took. I decided not to divide it into days, because it was really hard to keep straight, for one, but also because it really doesn't matter WHAT day they were taken :) I forgot to change the clock on my camera, so the time "stamp" on these pictures is completely incorrect, and I'll have to figure that out...LOL.

I will come back later to tag these with names. A lot of these animals are very similar in appearance, especially the various antelope.

Nyala (en-yaw-la).

Impala (?).

Same impala (?).

The only male impala (?) in that group.

Yellow-billed hornbill.

Mama warthog and three babies, but you can't see the third, just out of frame.

Warthog owning this water hole.

What does a warthog do when he has an itch he can't reach?

He rubs up against anything he can find...

...especially when it's your bum that itches!

Wildbeest...

...and more wildebeest...

...and finally a small herd.

Mr. Warthog is definitely keeping the wildebeest away from the water hole!

Kudu bull.

I believe this is a roan antelope. This is an odd photo, though.
It looks like this roan has two bodies but only one head!
With these wildlife, you take the pictures as you can get them :)

Waterbuck, with the distinctive "toilet seat ring"
around its rump.

I believe this to be a sable antelope.

Wildebeest finally getting that drink :)

Craig and Colby's "two-fer" Tuesday

Craig got his "dream" animal today, the kudu. This animal is absolutely huge. Colby took a gemsbuck right before sunset. More pix to follow.

Monday success for Craig but bad news for Pumba

Craig got two of his trophies today, an impala and the warthog I didn't want him to kill. Great pix, Colby.

Sunday Success - Blesbuck!

Very long day but success for Colby!

Here are three pix for Colby until we can post more. He is chomping at the bit to get these up...LOL.

Colby, our PH (professional hunter), Craig, and Colby's blesbuck.

Me and Colby and Craig and Colby's blesbuck.

This is one happy camper right here :)

Sunday, 10:30 a.m.

Since they left my butt at camp today (can you believe it??), I thought I'd post a few thoughts. They claim there's no room in the blind for me, but really I think they don't want me there :) I even got up at 7 a.m. for them! And I don't do that for just anybody.

We haven't had many occasions to buy things in South Africa so haven't had much experience with their currency (rand), but we did stop at a "mini mart" on the way from the airport to the ranch. Talk about walking into a place and buying things basically without looking at the price tags! Wow. All we could do was dive right in and hope for the best.

I wish I could scan our receipt, but I will have to list a few of the items here for your reading pleasure, descriptions interpreted by me:

75gr plain almonds - $21.80
355mL Red Bull - $29.90
500mL Pepsi Light (Diet Pepsi) - $9.20
36gr LaCaOnBaVin (I believe this was Colby's Lay's bacon and vinegar chips) - $4.60
100gr Cadbury caramel candy bar - $14.80
500mL coconut candy bar (like Almond Joy) - $10.70
500mL bottle peach iced tea - $11.80
165gr Pringles potato chips - $32.20
BeaNikiOrig (no idea what this was...LOL) - $7.40
250mL Red Bull - $20.40

Total - $162.80 (when was the last time you spent this much at a mini mart??)

So...Craig gets out some US currency and gives it to the cashier. She says, "We only take rand." Oh boy. This is a problem. We have no rand. We were told that we really wouldn't need it, so we didn't get any. Obviously in a pickle, I asked if she took debit/credit cards. Thankfully, they did. After the first one declined (forgot to inform bank we were going out of the country), the second card went through.

At this point, I have a sack of snacks and a receipt for $162.80, which I have absolutely no idea what it is. You totally should walk into a mini mart and buy whatever you want, without looking at price tags, and then check your receipt a few weeks later to see what you spent. That's kind of how I felt. By the way, Logan checked it for me, and $162.80 in rand is $19.54 in American dollars. Phew, I feel better :)

I think I will go back to waiting for the mighty hunters to return. They are *supposed* to return when they get their first trophy today, so I can take pictures of this creature. They are looking for a warthog, kudu, blesbuck (gemsbuck? can't remember which one), and one more which I'm drawing a blank on. They may be lucky to get anything!

No pictures thus far today...I may actually be lucky to get pictures of a live warthog. They move extremely fast! You can literally see their little tails poking up over the brush, and they are speedy! Hard to focus the camera on.

Keeping fingers I'll have pix of a trophy tonight!!

Later ~~ T

Pix from July 14, 2012

Pretty uneventful Saturday. Sat in a blind most of the morning. Had a few ostrich come in (Lindsey's hell...LOL), eland, and some kudu bull. It was a tad bit windy but not too bad weather-wise really. Only a few pictures from Saturday to share.

Ostrich, obviously :)

Eland...very pretty.

That's my boy! Bow? Check. Video camera? Check.

Kudu bull, two in a group of six.

Second set of two.

They were too separated to get a decent pic of all six from the front, but I think I like this one from the back. You can definitely see all six sets of horns.

Another picture of all six. The one on the far left is leaning down, eating, but the other five are looking my way.

Pix from July 13, 2012

Here are a few from July 13, 2012, Friday. This is the day we actually arrived IN Johannesburg and then traveled to the hunting lodge, even though we started our journey 2 days ago...Wednesday!

Craig and Colby picking up their bow case at the airport. These fine gentlemen took care of that for them.

Air traffic control tower at Johannesburg Airport.

Random Toyota truck. There are a lot of Toyota trucks on the roads, but they are diesel.

They drive on the left side of the road, instead of the right, and the driver sits on the right side of the car, instead of the left.

On this "oversize load," instead of saying that, it says, "Abnormal."

Colby's accommodations.

...and Colby's gear on his bed.

Our guard dog :)

Geez, do they look alike or what??

And the host at the property, Hanno Jr.

The front lawn...

And the "twins" again...

Who does this remind you of?

Stone garden tub...gorgeous!

Everything is in stone.

Inside of shower.

And our room.

And my kid with some very long horns...LOL.
