July 13, 2012 - 8:50 p.m. local time

Whew. What a whirlwind of a few days, all spent traveling so it has been exhausting.

Boarded the plane in Boise Wednesday, July 11, at 8 p.m., landed in LA 2-1/2 hours later, jumped back on a red-eye to NYC 90 minutes later, and then off to Johannesburg. The Johannesburg-NYC leg of the trip started at 11:15 a.m. NYC time Thursday morning, and we pulled into Johannesburg this morning at 8 a.m., all local times. This was 14 hours 45 minutes on the same plane.

Now I want you to try something...the next time you have 15 hours to burn doing nothing, I want you to find a chair, narrow chair, and I want you to sit in it. You have to sleep in this chair, eat in this chair, when and if a meal is brought to you, and to get to the bathroom, you have to climb over people and then hope that someone else isn't waiting for the restroom.

Imagine spending 15 hours in that chair. That 15 hours will feel like 3 times that, I guarantee you. I fell asleep in the first part of it, still sleepy from the red eye the night before, and when I woke up a while later, thinking a large part of the trip had passed, I was pretty bummed when I saw that we were barely 5 hours into it!

The air conditioning on the trip from Boise to Los Angeles was not working properly. It was SO HOT on that trip, everyone was sleeping, not because they were tired but because they had literally passed out because of the heat in the cabin. It was awful.

On the flight from Los Angeles to NYC, Craig made a couple friends...this is tongue in cheek. Keep in mind this is a red eye flight. The majority of people boarded and immediately fell asleep, even before we taxied. Not the guys beside Craig. These two old fellers sat down beside him, looked like retired golfers, one with a really bad toupee. They talked literally.the.whole.flight! Poor Craig. Even worse, they included HIM on their conversation! They also might have had a little much to drink. I think Colby has this on film :)

For our Johannesburg flight, we actually got great seats (as good as can be expected for 15 hours in a plane), the air conditioner worked, and we were on long enough that they actually fed us three meals. "You know it's a long flight when...."

So somewhere in there, we lost a day. It is now Friday night, about noonish back home, I think. After a good night sleep tonight actually in a bed, I think we'll be good with the time change.

Met Hanno, his wife Bardina, and the little ones, Hanno Jr. (2 years, I think) and Adaleen (2 months). Our professional hunter's name is Kyne, and he lives in the "cottage" next to ours. Went for a quick jaunt around the property today and saw a few animals: Blue wildebeest, golden wildebeest, baby wart hogs, giraffe, blesbuck, impala, kudu bull, and a few others. Welcome to South Africa!

Headed to bed. Up bright and early Saturday, July 14, for day 1 of hunting. Will post pictures tomorrow evening. Too tired right now to even think about it. Until then ~~ T, C, and C
