July 8, 2012 - Final countdown...

Here we are, Sunday night, July 8, and 2 years of planning and anticipation are about to culminate in what one might call an adventure of a lifetime. Who knew that 2 years ago when we attended that NRA dinner that we would be getting ready to head to South Africa in July 2012? It all seems surreal.

The checklists are made. The bags are (mostly) packed. The passports and immunization records are packed. The cameras are packed. On Colby's checklist, he included "mom" and "dad." I thought that was cute...LOL. The seasons there are opposite our seasons, so we will be leaving this 90-degree weather for some more mild weather.

We leave Wednesday night from Boise, 8 p.m. local time. We backtrack to Los Angeles and then take a genuine red eye to JFK in New York. Our next flight is to Johannesburg and is 14 hours 45 minutes long! Anyone who knows Colby knows that we will have a hard time keeping this kid down. I think I will sedate him...probably Craig, too ;) Total travel time for this portion of the trip? 28 hours 21 minutes. Yikes.

Once we land in "J-Burg," we have a 4-hour car ride to get to the reserve. Basically, we leave Wednesday from here and arrive there Friday. Crazy, huh? We will gain that day back coming home, though.

Lots to do in the next 2 days. Hopefully will get some work WORK done before we head out and not lose my job in the process...LOL.

Until next time ~~
